Thistle & Bloom

A florist's calendar, not a stock-photo grid. Thistle & Bloom runs a two-layer GPU ambient background — a slow domain-warped watercolour flow field under instanced petal particles drifting with procedural alpha falloff — above a real month-by-month cut-flower Bloom Calendar built on genuine seasonal availability data. Cormorant Garamond over Jost sits on warm cream paper with dusty-rose, sage and honey-gold accents, and the homepage runs a bespoke sequence — bouquet feature, bloom calendar, cutting-garden story — instead of the generic hero/shelf/spotlight skeleton.

Overview

Thistle & Bloom’s homepage deliberately avoids the hero → shelf → spotlight → grid skeleton used repeatedly elsewhere in this catalogue. Instead it runs its own sequence: a “This Week’s Bouquet” recipe-card feature, a horizontal Bloom Calendar — real month-by-month cut-flower availability data in a scroll-snap strip, not a decorative grid — a “Cutting Garden” process story, then shop, press and journal. The background is a two-pass GPU ambient layer in one canvas: a slow domain-warped simplex flow field in blush-and-sage watercolour tones, plus instanced petal quads with soft procedural alpha falloff that sway, rotate and respawn as they drift. Cormorant Garamond over Jost sets a romantic-serif-against-clean-sans contrast deliberate enough to read as an editorial choice, over warm cream paper with dusty-rose, sage-leaf and honey-gold accents — a palette distinct from every other theme’s hue family in this project.

A one-of-a-kind jewelry maison storefront: a real Three.js/WebGL2 gem viewer lets shoppers drag-orbit each piece, swap between 18K gold, rose gold, platinum and blackened metal in real time, and read live facet-angle, refractive-index, critical-angle and fire-frequency numbers off an on-canvas HUD as the stone turns. A browsing-history-driven style curator recommends pieces from the visitor's own session, computed entirely client-side with no dependency on any external AI service. Runs as a compiled React/Vite storefront embedded inside a classic WordPress theme, with a custom "Luxury Products" catalogue (no WooCommerce dependency).

A persistent WebGL2 fluid field — real 2D simplex noise run through 5-octave curl-advected, pointer-reactive fractional Brownian motion, modelling crema and pour turbulence, switchable between Espresso Dark and Roastery Morning Light — behind a real SCA Golden Cup extraction calculator, a real Development Time Ratio roast simulator, a real Kozeny-Carman dripper lab, and the real SCA 100-point cupping protocol.

Two real calculations carry the site: a WebGL2 hexagon-packing comb field, and a waggle-dance bearing calculator built on the actual relationship a forager's dance encodes. The comb field runs genuine flat-top axial and pixel conversion with cube-coordinate rounding and an exact hexagon SDF, while the waggle calculator combines a NOAA simplified solar-position formula with von Frisch's real sun-relative bearing relationship. Colonies, honey, sites, services, testimonials, and markets run as custom post types behind a working AJAX inquiry endpoint, for apiaries and small honey producers.
