Overview
Who it is for
A house that sells voyages to orbit: four guests at a time, a commander, fourteen days of preparation on a high desert plateau, and a price with the word “million” in it. The catalogue had travel themes for places on the ground and nothing for the one trip that leaves it.
The front page is one orbit
Behind the page is the Earth, drawn live in the browser from four hundred kilometres up. It is not a video. Sunlight is scattered through a modelled atmosphere — Rayleigh, Mie and ozone, the published Earth values — over NASA’s Blue Marble, Black Marble and cloud maps, from the position of a craft on a real 51.6° orbit. The reader’s scroll is the clock: sunrise over the Sahel, Africa and the Southern Ocean by day, sunset behind the craft at 57:26, the aurora and the lights of the Great Lakes by night, and the second sunrise at the reservation form.
A small orbit clock follows along: day and night drawn to scale, mission elapsed time, and the region the craft is actually over at that minute.
Voyages are flight plans
A voyage stores what a flight director would write down — altitude, inclination, days, and whether it is a dawn-dusk orbit. Everything a guest wants to know is derived: minutes per orbit, how many sunrises (none, on a dawn-dusk orbit), how far they will fly, and whether the aurora will ever be on their horizon.
WebGPU, honestly
A compute pass builds the atmosphere’s transmittance table; a fragment raymarch draws every pixel. The launch section adds a second WebGPU view on the same device — a porthole in which the sky darkens exactly as the air thins. WebGL2 takes over where WebGPU is missing, a photograph where neither is, and the footer says which one is drawing. Reduced-motion visitors get each section’s moment as a still.
