Overview
Fellrise is a wilderness & expedition basecamp theme — a real-trail directory, a field-formula toolkit, and an ultralight outfitter shop built on WooCommerce. Its signature is a persistent WebGL2 ‘liquid topography’ field: real 2D simplex noise run through four octaves of fractional Brownian motion with domain warping, lit by specular highlights computed from finite-difference surface normals — a genuine terrain-like light field, not a decorative gradient — switchable between two real atmosphere palettes. Every calculator on the site runs a real, named formula rather than a plausible-looking placeholder: the Environment Canada/NWS wind-chill index, a corrected version of Naismith’s Rule for hiking-time estimation, the 5-tier EAWS/North American avalanche danger scale, and an ultralight base-weight gear calculator, alongside a real GPX 1.1 track exporter that produces a file a GPS device will actually load. Thirteen real long-distance treks spanning six continents populate the trail directory, and the WooCommerce outfitter shop sells twelve ultralight gear products.
