Overview
Who it is for
Craft distilleries, whisky and gin brands, rum houses and tasting rooms — businesses whose product is a liquid people want to see, smell and visit. Alembic shows the range bottle by bottle, explains how it is made, helps a visitor choose, and turns interest into a tour request.
A glass you can play with, in WebGPU
The hero is a live simulation of viscimetry — the curling threads that appear when water meets spirit. Compute shaders solve the flow every frame (vorticity confinement, buoyancy, Jacobi pressure projection, advection), and a render pass bends a warm back-light through the water threads while tinting the liquid with Beer–Lambert absorption taken from each spirit’s colour. Move across the glass to add water, press "Add a drop", or switch the spirit in the glass. Each spirit’s own page renders the glass in that spirit’s colour. Without WebGPU, a painted still glass stands in; motion pauses off-screen and respects reduced-motion settings.
The shelf and the flavour finder
Spirits are native records with ABV, age, cask, still, bottling, nose, palate, finish, perfect serve and a six-axis flavour profile. Every bottle is drawn in SVG from its liquid colour, so a new spirit looks finished without photography, and morphs into its page through a cross-document view transition. The shelf filters by type with pure CSS. Six sliders match a visitor’s palate to the closest bottle on a live radar chart.
Visits and tour requests
Tours carry price, duration, capacity, start times and inclusions. The request form adapts its times and guest limit to the chosen tour, shows a live estimate, validates on the server and stores private records with a reference. It does not send email or take payment. An age notice, configurable legal age and responsible-drinking line are built in, with a one-click, repeatable demo import.
Inner pages that do real work
Every spirit page carries a water calculator — pour size and target strength in, millilitres and drops out. Cocktails are recipes tied to a spirit, with drawn glasses and a servings scaler, and link back to the bottle. The Our story template draws a scroll-driven timeline with values, team badges and estate commitments, and the journal has a lead article, topic chips, a sticky contents list and related reading.
