Overview

Chatoyance is a multi-métier luxury maison storefront — high jewellery, watchmaking, leather and fragrance under one roof — built around a real-time anisotropic gem-optics engine. Its signature is a WebGL2 evaluation of the Kajiya-Kay anisotropic reflection model, the physically correct BRDF for parallel fibrous inclusions: real ray/ellipsoid intersection for the cabochon dome, Schlick-Fresnel from the species’ actual refractive index, and the light band genuinely sweeps across the stone as the pointer moves — verified by measuring the rendered pixels, not just eyeballed. A second engine, inc/gem-optics.php, derives every optics figure shown on the site — critical angle, the pavilion-angle window where both internal reflections hold, surface reflectance, spectral fire — from Snell’s law and the Fresnel equations at render time, for six real gem species. Editors can type a pavilion angle that the physics doesn’t support, and the product page says so in plain language rather than hiding it. WooCommerce runs the shop, real checkout included; a private post type and server-side email carry salon appointment requests. Self-hosted Prata and Faustina, zero third-party JavaScript, zero outbound network requests at runtime.
