Étoile Morph

Overview

Étoile Morph is built for a publication that writes about how things are made — cloth, construction, colour, and the room a collection walks into. It suits a fashion or design journal, a materials studio, a craft archive, or any editorial site where the specification behind a piece matters as much as the picture.

Five desks, five real pages

Digital Runway, Materiality Lab, Trend Radar, Runway Soundscape Studio and Issue Archive each ship as a genuine WordPress page — its own permalink, its own title, and a body the editor writes into. Nothing is hidden behind a client-side tab.

A persistent GPU ground

One WebGL2 canvas runs behind the whole publication: domain-warped fractional Brownian motion over 2D simplex noise, five octaves, DPR-capped. It is tuned as a ground rather than a spectacle, and it hands back to a painted still frame under reduced-motion, on a lost context, or where WebGL is unavailable.

Instruments, not decorations

• Trend radar — a real polar plot where distance from the centre is momentum. The geometry is computed in PHP and shipped as SVG, so the chart is readable and indexable with JavaScript off.
• Materiality lab — drag the light across a swatch and the sheen travels with it; the readout is the value being applied.
• Soundscape studio — a drone synthesised with the Web Audio API, three room presets that actually retune it, and a level meter reading an AnalyserNode. No audio file is bundled or fetched.
• Look inspector — click to magnify a plate, then drag or arrow-key across the weave.

Honest by construction

The subscribe form stores the address and says plainly that no mail service is connected. The share control writes to the clipboard and reports failure when it cannot. Filter chips carry real published counts, and a desk with nothing filed to it reads as unavailable rather than as a link to an empty page.

Privacy and licensing

No external request at runtime — fonts self-hosted, no script CDN, no analytics, and an inline monogram default avatar instead of a Gravatar lookup. Six OFL typefaces, nineteen licence-verified photographs, zero third-party JavaScript. GPLv2.
