Overview

Dram is made for a small, independent distillery that states its numbers rather than its adjectives — a stated mash bill, a stated proof, a stated cask program, not marketing fog. The brief called for the catalogue’s liquid-glass material technique to be reused in a fresh industry with its own narrative logic: a glass literally holding the product.

A fixed, full-viewport WebGL2 canvas runs a genuine explicit finite-difference solve of the 2D shallow-fluid wave equation on every page, masked to a hand-authored tumbler-glass silhouette so it reads as amber spirit settling in a glass rather than an abstract surface. On boot the simulated fill level eases from empty to a settled pour with slosh impulses, then keeps living with periodic pour-glug impulses and pointer ripples. Its height field is read twice each frame: once by a GPU fragment shader that paints the visible pour with depth-graded amber color and foam, and once by a CPU-side pass that drives every .glass panel’\”s own inner-glow intensity and live spirit-color tint from the same simulation state.

Two secondary techniques round out the signature set: a scroll-scrubbed SVG diagram tracing the path through a copper pot still (wash charge, vapor rise, condensation, collection), and an interactive cask-aging widget showing new-make spirit deepen to mahogany across a draggable time slider — the same interaction family as this catalogue’\”s Blow/Gel balance sliders.

Two cross-linked custom post types carry the content: Expressions (bottled releases with age statement, proof, cask type, and tasting notes) and Casks (barrel programs with wood origin, char level, and prior contents), matched the way this catalogue’\”s installation/material and course/instructor pairs are — by a shared free-text field, not a rigid taxonomy.

Two real calculations carry the site: a WebGL2 hexagon-packing comb field, and a waggle-dance bearing calculator built on the actual relationship a forager's dance encodes. The comb field runs genuine flat-top axial and pixel conversion with cube-coordinate rounding and an exact hexagon SDF, while the waggle calculator combines a NOAA simplified solar-position formula with von Frisch's real sun-relative bearing relationship. Colonies, honey, sites, services, testimonials, and markets run as custom post types behind a working AJAX inquiry endpoint, for apiaries and small honey producers.
